Last night (Friday, Feb. 13) in Italy there was a voluntary electricity fast for one hour at 6:00 PM. It was a really interesting experience because it forced me to be mindful of the various ways I use electricity without being conscious. Just the process of making sure we were using no electricity was quite a chore. I had to go through and unplug all the wall warts and turn off the hot water.The process also helped me rediscover the candles and matches and my acoustic guitar. It was such a nice pause that I think I’ll try to do it more often.
